Meet the Committee
President
Hi all! I'm Cyara, second year History and English student, Merton college, and incoming UN Women Oxford President. I'm beyond excited to be taking on this role (no really, I happy danced for like 2 straight hours when I found out), mostly because I can't wait to see what this fantastic community of feminists conquers next. To me nothing says feminism better than collaboration, everyone getting stuck in as a team to make where we live a better place than it was yesterday. UN Women Oxford have already done so much, and I can't wait to work alongside our wonderful members to do more in our fight against gender inequality
Vice President
Hi, my name is Alice and I’m in my second year studying biology at Wadham. I was more than excited to be elected Vice President of UNWO; the society stands for such important ideals and values and I’m so honoured to be a part of it. For me, feminism is about celebrating wom*n, learning to make a path for ourselves as wom*n and supporting each other. I think there is lots we can do to help each other and that includes the men! Gender equality is a fight for everyone, regardless of background or gender.
Secretary
Hi, I'm Jess, a first year PPEist at Merton and this year's secretary for UNWomen Oxford! I am thrilled to be the Secretary in this group of incredible students who have achieved so much and put on so many fantastic events in such a short time frame. I'm also very excited to get started because, at the same time, it feels like there is still so much potential for what we could organise and accomplish. I can't wait to continue creating an open dialogue about gender equality and feminist issues.
Treasurer
Hi, I’m Jessy, a first year medic at Merton. Growing up a woman in a country as openly patriarchal as India, it’s impossible not to personally resonate with the cause of gender equality. I’ve been lucky enough to grow up in a progressive family that was happy to have two daughters, but most women* in India I’ve seen around me aren’t as lucky. I’m so excited to be the Treasurer of this community of strong, opinionated feminists and help UN Women grow even more!
Membership Officer
Hi everyone! I’m Harri, and I’m a first year History and Politics student at Queens. I can’t wait to get involved with UN Women in Oxford as the new Membership Officer and I’m really excited to get as many people on board as possible with this fantastic group of feminists!! Even in the smallest way, I hope I can play a part in contributing towards the advancement of gender parity here in Oxford and getting people involved with the fantastic events we are holding this term.
Events Officer
Hi guys! I am Julia Willemyns and I'm a first-year in Merton studying Portuguese and French. I am ecstatic to be involved in UNWomen as the Events Officer. I am proud to say I am a passionate intersectional feminist who is not afraid to be loud about my thoughts and values and will fight for others to have their voices be heard too. Feminism to me is not only a term in a list of things I use to identify myself with but a value that I try to live by every day. I deserve to exist, take up space and be respected and so do you; this is what I fight to ensure everyone feels they are entitled to
Deputy Events Officer
Hi! I'm Emily and I'm a Merton second year taking Classics. I'll be one of the Deputy Events Officers and I can't wait to help this community of incredible women*. Feminism to me is about equal opportunity to succeed, regardless of gender, in whatever path you choose.
Publicity Officer
Hey! I'm Noorie Abbas, and I'm a first year History and Politics student at New College. I'm so excited to be UN Women's Publicity Officer this term, it's so amazing to be a part of something that had expanded its reach so far. Being a Pakistani woman, gender equality has always been a topic close to my heart. Feminism to me is all about women helping women*, and I love being able to do that through the small way I do here at UNWomen Oxford.
Social Secretary
Hi! I’m Renee Robinson! I am currently a PPE visiting student at St. Anne’s College. I am so excited to be the the Social Secretary for UN Women Oxford this term. I really cannot wait to meet all of you fabulous feminists and providing a fun space where we can all get together!
